Welcome to Hell's Crossing!

Tell me your short stories of horror and torture, or anything gruesome. Anything goes while I'm around. I might even tell a few tales myself. We can fire up the barbecue and roast a few morsels while we're at it.

To keep things interesting, let's limit each story to one hundred and fifty words to begin with. Beware...it's harder than you think, but a challenge nonetheless! Don't like a challenge? Of course you do...everyone does!

Remember...walk ACROSS the bridge...NOT UNDER it...unless, that is, you want to find out what it really feels llike to have been to Hell and back. Haha...just my little joke.

Now then...I don't think it's quite hot enough around here so let's get that fire started and chuck on a few steaks!

I shall warm myself by your fire, Tanza and wait for your father. We are due to cross over very soon. Or should I say cross under? Hmm I guess that would be more appropriate. It is, indeed, so cold around here. I am in danger of losing my smouldering looks. You look rather fetching in that flowing linen dress. I do believe I have never seen a length of fabric that stretches so enticingly around a creature's curves. Let's face it, you have got some curves, Tanza.

Uncle Val, Uncle Val...again you try to force your attentions on me. Well, I'm sorry, I just can't stomach the thought of it. One very big reason is the very fact that the word 'Uncle' appears very noticeably in our relationship already. As much as I love you in that way...to be IN love with you?...get a grip. I know you would cavort with any creature...dead or alive...and, yes, I would too. But...each other? Stop this nonsense now.

If you want to please me...entertain me with a story or two. I'm busy scalding dinner here, but it would give me something to listen to, while the flesh is roasting.

I doubt, however, that you could squash any of your tall tales into one as short as I request. One hundred and fifty words? I doubt it very much.

Ahh, you're just joking, I know it. You'd have me in a flash if nobody was looking. Where did your sense of adventure go? Anyway, I don't see you as my niece. You're just an obese lump of lusciousness to me, my pretty. Every part of you just screams to be chewed upon. Of course, in the best possible taste.

A story? Yes, I have one for you. There's no killing or torture though, but it's very true.
As you know, all my tales are very true. Okay, here goes...

Santa at Hell's Crossing

I noticed two figures wandering along Demon's Path and shouted for them to stop. They turned and walked back towards me. I soon realized it was the legendary Santa with his elf. Yes, good old Saint Nick was heading straight to Hell! I told him he should take his elf across the bridge…not under it and he laughed loudly.

''I’ve worked long and hard this year to give each child all they need to survive this world. Because of me, many children’s hopes have turned into disappointment. Their greed has been nurtured to the highest possible levels. Less and less they remember God and Jesus, while more and more they think only of themselves. Soon, they will learn to take without remorse and give nothing at all in return.''

I smiled and nodded, gesturing for him to continue.

''Then, I guess you are going the right way. Safe journey…Old Nick!’’

See? I CAN tell short stories!
Don't worry, I'll think of something far more gruesome for my next attempt.
So, NOW will you marry me?

Hmm...that's quite creepy. I like it. No, I will not marry you, but thanks for the compliments all the same. I'm impressed with you Uncle Val. You really did keep it short. Did you actually see him pass under the bridge? The reason I ask is that I managed to catch a rather large human, dressed in red and we happen to be roasting him right now. It was a stroke of luck that so many fat men were wandering about dressed in red. Easy to see and easy to catch...just about. Tell me we're not eating Beelzebub himself. If that were the case, what would become of us? What would become of you Uncle...and my father? Oh I dread to think. Who would feed his hounds?? They're quite nasty when they're hungry. I don't want them all running up and down outside my shack begging for food.

Another story Uncle?...and more blood this time. I challenge you to pack it full of as much horror as possible. Sigh...no more Santas. They give me heartburn haha!!

The Sharp Beast

Two nines went on and then it was ten and dark. My quiet stopped and sharps came on my neck. I turned with more than all the speeds I knew and caught cheek pouches with a hard pinch. I gave moanings to its face and warned to leave before a big feast. Beast fled on falling feet and scared to look behind. No coming back and laughs we made.

Next night same beast walks near to put sharps in again. Moanings went on again with rolling fights as well. All round fire jumping on and off to stop mouth flaps peeling back, but sharps rip most on top. Bent up and ropes tied, beast thrown under bridge. Shame to darken such bright orbs to eternal dark.

More of like come when tomorrow fades black. Angry demands that brother beast has release, but grins point to flesh on forks with giggles.

I hope that you don't mind a Sea Witch sharing a story with you Tanza. My sister Menippe is busy knitting baby bootees and talking of fluffy seal cubs, it is a bit more than I can endure.

The Promise

“I will love you and be faithful to you with every waking breath,” her husband had promised. “Just marry me and leave the sea.”
Young and foolish, the mermaid had believed those words and now she saw him sprawled across the sheets with a serving wench. Anger crashed against her chest like storm-tossed waves.
“I shall keep you to your promise. While you remain awake you will have breath but once asleep you’ll die,” she cursed him.
And she watched. Watched the weeks he struggled not to sleep. Watched as he raved from hallucinations and paranoia , as he cut his skin with a dagger so the pain kept him awake and she listened to him beg her heart colder than Vorgania. When he finally slept, she kissed him on his lips and took his last breath.

She returned to the sea as a Sea Witch, living happily ever after.

Don't you love happy endings?

Oh Evarne! I like that a lot. There is the love affair, the promise of a lifetime of love and then a real stab in the heart for the poor mermaid. I especially love the way she watched as the man she had loved so dearly tortured himself to put off the inevitable consequences of his actions. She's my kind of girl...deserving of her happy ending. I wonder how she disposed of the serving wench.

Kizzy, when I said short stories I was thinking, maybe, fictional. I don't think the humes would be very impressed with our day-to-day lives. As you said...it was a shame. Such a pretty manbeast. Great teeth!

I will push the limit to five hundred words for those of you who have more to say and start the new limit with a true story I, myself, would like to tell. I will try to keep it brief.

My mother, Viktoria, was a beautiful woman…still is. Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit her looks, but the madness that runs through us all is deeply rooted in my soul. I cannot help that. It is part of my nature as a Kishi Devil’s daughter, just as my mother cannot help her state of mind. The curse that comes with falling in love with a Kishi is a horrific one.

So...to the story:

THE INTRUDER

Viktoria sat quietly...combing her hair in front of the mirror. She saw a dark figure behind her and her eyes, now reddened by Hell’s own disease, locked on to the image. She turned and grabbed the intruder. Her strength was too much for the creature and they both soon fell to the ground with Viktoria proudly kneeling on her prey…her hand gripped tightly around its throat. She reached for a knife she kept hidden in a sheath at her waist. With ten, or more, swipes at her victim, she slashed hard and deep until she could no longer recognize even a single facial feature. Then, she ripped into its torso with her bare hands…pulling and dragging with anger.

After a while, she calmed herself and left the lifeless form. As blood flowed steadily from the gaping wounds, Viktoria sat back down, without a sound, to continue combing her beautiful hair.

Suddenly, her Kishi lover, Zandrok, was at the window. She leaped up to greet him. Her eyes brightened as he rushed to hold her in his arms. He had feared he would be too late. A rival clan had sought revenge for his destruction of a few of their Demon brothers. They had found Viktoria and sent one of their most vicious clan members to slay her.

Viktoria pointed to the floor where the bloody creature lay, still bleeding out its dark and pungent blood. Zandrok was relieved at the sight of her handiwork. He worried that, this time, she had been lucky and, next time, there may be more of them. Then, he gazed into Viktoria’s eyes and realized just how much his curse had changed her. He regretted the tragic effect his love was having, but couldn’t stay away. He looked back at the putrid mess of entrails at their feet. He realized there was nothing to fear. Viktoria was, indeed, now a creature of Hell herself and her own instincts would keep her alive.
