Being happy in this world
Isn't easy to achieve
Constantly beset by fools
Sometimes I wish they'd all just leave.

They say the wicked get no rest
But in trying your very best
To be good, honest and sincere
Just who is working hardest here?

As Tanza said, expunge the 'bad'
Keep close the ones that make you glad
There is of course another way
But remember "Drugs are baaad...m'kay?"

I don't know you well enough to offer you an answer to that question that you should even consider taking notice of.

For what it's worth, you certainly don't strike me as a 'bad' person. Sure, perhaps you could do with focussing on positive stuff a bit more but to be honest I think there's something built into us that can lead that to happen. Ever noticed how good memories seem to have a shelf life whereas the bad ones never seem to go away. I reckon that's because we LEARN from the bad ones so they tend to be more vivid so that we don't make the same 'mistakes' again and again. Having fun is more like a drug...you need to go back for more. Of course, that's just my brain ticking over into amateur psychologist mode. Take as little or as much notice of that spiel as you wish! After all, what the hell do I know? I'm just a fellow human being trying to muddle way through the time I have on this here green and blue ball. :)

As for being antisocial...in my humble and honest opinion, people who feel the need to spend their every waking moment socialising and maintaining a greater number of shallow friendships as opposed to a few strong and meaningful ones are either running away from something or lacking something within themselves. Of course I would say that being somewhat of a hermit at heart. I'm sure those people would argue that they're merely trying to enjoy every moment of their lives. I guess it depends on what you want from your life. If was busy all of the time, I wouldn't be able to amuse myself by thinking ridiculous thoughts like these or writing 'awseome' (HAH!) poetry or sitting back and having a look at how the world REALLY works outside of the realm that homo sapiens has created for her/himself.

Liking your own company doesnt make you a bad person. 'Actually' liking Katie Price or wanting to eat people does...*cough* not mentioning any names of course! ;)

[Good grief! Just noticed how much I've written - sorry, I get carried away!]

I hope you don't mind me chiming in.

I won't go on about my past, except to say two things; I grew up a a friendless outcast, and I am a different person now.

It may sound strange, but the key to happiness is true humility. Not cringing "I'm a worm" type stuff, but an accurate self image.

If you look at yourself honestly, and accept yourself for who you truly are, then nothing anyone says can change that. That is an immensely strong position to be in.

It means you can laugh at yourself when you do something silly. It means you don't feel embarrassed or ashamed. You are free to be serious, or foolish, or whatever you want.

Another aspect is not to compare yourself with other people. Each one of us is a unique blend of abilities and disabilities, strengths and weaknesses. We must be aware of, and accept, our own limitations, without judgement. We can develop our strengths and overcome our weaknesses, accepting the things wt have no control over.

When anything happens to us, we must not say "why me?", because what happens to us has happened to many other people before. Our response should be "why not me?" because to say otherwise makes us think other people "deserve" our fate more than we do.

We should consider no task too dirty or menial for us. Every job that needs to be done must be done by someone. Why not us?

We should consider everyone as more deserving of honour than ourselves. A strange words, that. Honour. It means we make other people feel good about themselves. Those that deserve it, because of who they are. Those that don't deserve it, because of who they could become.

We need to guard our thoughts (see my poem Private Room).

We must realise that our fears are often imagination, and that many of the things we fear are just those things we need. Fear keeps us from peace.

We must also realise that, when we are upset, annoyed, irritated, insulted and the like, it is a choice. We choose how to react. When we do react, we give the other person power over us. Like sticking ourselves with a knife and blaming the other person.

OK. All done for now. I hope some of this helps.

Really really wise words there from Waycyber et al!

Couple of lines from a song I like (Thing called love by Bonnie Raitt) might be appropriate here

We can live in fear or act out of hope
for some kind of peaceful situation

Whether your sunglasses are off or on
You only see the world you make

Hard lesson to learn how much we are responsible for the life we lead.
