Haaah...my son had a thing about climbing into shop windows and destroying the displays!! He didn't set out to destroy them, but just brushing past everything would pull it all down...eek!! We were in Marks and Spencers one day and, while I was paying at a counter, my niece and nephew took him for a walk around the shop to occupy him. They all came back looking rather flustered, but wouldn't tell me what had happened. As we walked through the shop to the doors, I saw a group of shop assistants gathered round a large display platform. About six large dummies were lying on the floor in about three bits each. Their clothes were strewn everywhere and I just thought...oh dear...I wonder what happened there!! Then I looked at the children and their overly puzzled faces spoke volumes!!! I looked straight at my son and he just stared at me smiling and said, ''I didn't do it.''...which, coming from him, usually meant that he most certainly did! As we walked out, we were followed by lots of stares...obviously, from the people who had seen him do it.

Love the story about the tampons haha!! My son found a stash of panty liners in a drawer once. You know...the ones they seal in lovely patterned plastic, so they look pretty? Maybe they are manufactured by men, who think we need cheering up at those times so they don't suffer as much...no chance hehe. Anyway, I noticed he had one in his school backpack one day and I asked him why he was taking it in. He said he wanted to give it to his teacher as a present, because there was going to be an assembly and everyone who had bought her a gift could present it to her. Then, I remembered I'd told him they were presents when he's seen one ages before. I told him she couldn't have any, because they were mine and I wanted to keep them all. He couldn't believe it!! He said, ''But, you've got loads and I only need ONE!!''. He was persistent and, for a little while after, he kept asking if he could give his teacher one of 'those presents' yet. Aren't they sweet!? I just kept imagining his teacher saying thank you, as he handed one to her, before realizing what it was...especially in front of a hall full of people! Maybe, I should have let him take one just for the fun of it. Maybe, he could have given her a pack of condoms for Christmas. :->

Again...my dad and his cars.

He was never one to let people see he'd been affected by what they did. For example, if someone poked fun at him, he'd find a way of making them look stupid instead of himself. He thought he did anyway.

So...yes...he had a Rover 3000 at one point and used to park it outside the pub up the road. It was the pub he was in when his Viva got smashed up...not that it's important here, but still. He wasn't one for sprucing his cars up, or caring if they had dents in them. He would run them into the ground or wait for them to be smashed up before acquiring a new (old banger) one.

One morning, he went up the road to get in his car for work and found that somebody had stuck large sticky posters on each door. So, his car was basically covered in these massive posters. They were the type you see stuck all over walls to promote gigs etc. and, I have to say, whoever had done it, did a very good job...they were seriously stuck fast! Dad went to work and came home, after driving his car around all day with these bright sticky posters all over it.

That evening, he came straight into the house, out and down the garden to the shed...returning with a can of spray paint. As he left, he said, ''They think they've got me...they aint!''. He went to his car and sprayed the paint over the top of the stickers. Instead of peeling the stickers off and spending any money on getting the bodywork sorted out, he just covered them in a similar colour to that of the car itself.

As you can imagine, it didn't look great. However, he was happy, even though it meant we all had to ride around in this lumpy, bumpy weird old car. It didn't matter though. Dad just loved telling everyone what he'd done. He would tell the whole story with such pride, always making sure he made the point that 'they' hadn't 'got' him.

Nobody knew who 'they' were, but 'they' seemed to target my dad's cars, and other aspects of his life, quite a lot over the years. Hence, there may be a few more stories to follow, but I will save them for another post.

...and here it is. You knew it wouldn't be long before I was back with another story about my dad.

Yes, this is another one about his car. As you know, he had to start parking it away from the house because a massive roundabout was built right outside our gate. It made it very difficult for me to cross to the pub opposite. However, by some miracle, I managed to make it there...every night! Getting back was far more tricky...mostly because, after seven pints of lager and lime and a couple of whiskey chasers, I'd sort of forgotten how to walk without falling into bushes.

So...because of the sticky poster episode, we tried to encourage my dad to park his car somewhere else. Eventually, after a few years of having nails cleverly positioned under his tyres to puncture them when he drove off and several oversized penis engravings 'keyed' so very artistically on his bonnet and boot, he gave in. We were all so relieved that he would no longer be parking his beloved (old banger) car outside the pub where so many pissed maniacs would pour from each and every night (not me...I was in the pub/bush opposite remember).

So...he decided to park it in the back streets behind our house. It was quite a walk to get to it and I hated getting a lift from him to go out anywhere. By the time we'd walked to his car, I might has well have walked to where I was going in the first place and I was so knackered, I almost couldn't be bothered to actually go out anymore...but I did...I should get to the main story.

My dad came home one evening in a foul mood. He started moaning about these same people who are 'getting' him. You remember those people...they didn't 'get' him last time. Well, they were back and trying to 'get' him again. He held in his hand, his car arial...all bent up. It was totally unusable. He was fuming. The next morning, he left for work clutching a metal coat hanger. Yes, we all know why. Anyway, every night from then on, he'd bring it in with him and, every morning, he'd take it. Unfortunately, it didn't do the job properly and my dad couldn't hear the radio in his car very well, so he decided to attach it permanently somehow. He was very good at all that sort of stuff (being a car mechanic), so he did actually do it. Then, what a surprise, he went to his car one morning to find it all bent up like you wouldn't believe. Every morning, he would straighten it out before he drove to work and every morning, it would be all bent up again. In the end, he couldn't be bothered to straighten it. It was time to say goodbye to any kind of street cred I had left and a big fat hello to riding around in a car which looked like it had an electronic buzzer game permanently stuck to its bonnet!

ANYway...one day, we were both walking away from the car. He looked back at the bonnet and at the ridiculous metal sculpture that adorned it. He walked back to straighten it. He said, ''If they're bloody watchin' me, they'll be dyin' to get out 'ere to crunch it all up again....they'll be thinkin'...we'll get 'im.''. Then, he came to walk away, but he didn't get far. He said, ''Sod 'em!'' and rushed back to the car. Then, he said, ''See 'ow they like this!''. I watched as he proceeded to squash, bend and crumple his OWN arial into the most distorted and misshapen figure you could possibly imagine. ''There!'', he said, in a really proud voice, ''There's nuffin' they can do to make it any worse than it is already...I've got 'em! They think they're gonna get me, but they aint. I've got THEM!''.

Destroying your OWN car arial, just so that nobody else can. Pure madness, but I am so grateful for every minute of it he shared with me.

Yes, it's that time again. Another tale about my father and this time it's got nothing to do with a car! Here goes...

When I was really young, we had a swing our back garden. It was one of the really old heavy-framed ones...rusty as hell, but still standing after years of abuse. The seat was made from really heavy moulded rubber stuff, that would have definitely knocked me out if it had whacked me in the face. So, you get the idea. I loved that swing. I'd play on it all the time. Sometimes, I'd just sit and let my legs dangle, brushing my feet on the worn grass underneath. Sometimes, I'd give it a real pounding...standing up on the seat and everything!!

One day, I came home from school and was looking forward to playing in the garden. It was a hot day, so I got a drink of water from the kitchen tap. As I did so, I glanced out of the window and, to my shock and complete and utter horror, there was my beloved swing frame...with an old, smelly, oily car engine hanging from it! (Here we are with the car again!)

I ran outside in tears and asked my dad what he was doing. He told me he needed to use it or the car couldn't be fixed. He also told me my swing would be fine after he'd finished what he was doing and could re-attach the seat. I just looked at it all in amazement. The long, heavy-duty swing chains were wrapped around his precious engine and our garden had been left ruined and totally funless!! My mother was also most disturbed by the whole affair when she couldn't find her washing-up bowl and realized it has been strategically placed under the suspended engine. Apparently, it was perfect for catching large amounts of oil...more perfect than doing the washing-up in...obviously.

Of course, the swing wasn't fixed and I never swung on it again. The seat became just an object to be moved around the garden during mowing times and used as a heavy weight on windy days...pinning anything we didn't want blown away securely to the ground. The washing up bowl? Mum replaced it with another one. She didn't want it back, so I used it to keep tadpoles and sticklebacks in. It appears this ordinary, but very useful, bowl was perfect for quite a lot of things!

Further to this story...I begged my dad to fix the swing, but he wouldn't. In the end, he dismantled the whole frame and leant it up against the back fence. THEN...he grew beans up it!!!!!!!!

I begged and begged for another swing or even a climbing frame and, eventually, he gave in. He strode up the garden path with his extending ladder (the one he used when he painted the house) and leant it up against the shed roof, at what he considered to be an acceptable angle...to form a climbing frame.

Not only was he giving me the option to climb a long ladder, which actually stood above the shed by quite a few feet...he was completely happy that I could, in fact, stand and jump on the shed roof if I wanted!!

I climbed up and down it a few times...it wasn't that much fun, so I decided to try to climb through it and drop to the floor that way. Unfortunately, I got stuck fast and was left hanging with my ribs squashed and my legs dangling. I shouted and shouted, but it was ages before my dad came out to push me back up and through the ladder rungs.

He told me off...which I thought was quite harsh.
