Hey Philomena! :D Mine too. where would we be without them? Although. I'll have to go on a diet as usual. Xmas can be a pain that way. :roll: Good to see that Grimnians are having a go at this. It's the third poem I've written, but I think I've reached my limit. I like your poems. One of them is very moving. Anyway, must dash I'm due in the pub an hour ago! :shock: Hope to see more entries in the Comp!

Something special this December
Will rise up from a dying ember.
For yonks it seemed like such a chore
In fact, too often, nothing more
Than something that I had to do...
But not this year, let me tell you!

This Yule will bring about a joy
Last felt when I was just a boy
Before the magic and the wonder
Was tarnished first, then torn asunder.

This year my nerves are all a tingle
This year the bells once more will jingle
This year I'll relive true surprise
When I see Christmas through her eyes!

Here comes Christmas!

Time to hit
The credit cards;
'We'll pay it back,
It won't be hard',
(As long as
Nothing changes
And the company
Don't reduce
Our wages)

But,
Family...matters.

All that buying,
Weeks of lying,
Childrens tears now
Gently drying,
Please Amanda,
No more crying!

Then,
Parents watching,
Proudly preening,
'For the children',
'Til the evening;
As
Seasons Greetings
Now defeating
Happy faces;
Frown replaces
Beaming
Smiles.
It's been a while,
Since parents
Dreamed of
Childish things;
But then
Nostalgia
Creeps on in,
Soft and sure
With Gentle eddies,
Whistful memories,
Raw as berries.

'Remember 1974
You pushed our Sandra
Out the door!'

And time
Retreats
As history wins...

And next year,
It'll win again.

The season of enchantment beckons

Gathering a daily pace

kids are counting down the seconds

Until Santa shows his face.



Coloured lights grab your attention

Sway in breeze that hints of snow

Mince pies way too hot to mention

Egg-nog leaves a warming glow



Queueing cars, impatient people

All just wishing they were home

Distant bells from farthest steeples

Ring so loud their rafters groan



Shops all full to overflowing

With the gifts that we exchange

Fires alight with embers glowing

Pots 'a' simmer on the range



Families meeting lots of banter

Smiling faces fill the hall

Conversations at a canter

As the snow begins to fall



Christmas brings us all together

At this special time of year

A hope that this will last forever

With the ones we hold so dear.

What’s Christmas?

I don’t want a Wii
Or a Play station 3
A widescreen TV
Or an MP3
A camera that clicks
Or a Rolex that ticks
Designer clothes
Not for me any of those

Now, a bowl of rice
That WOULD be nice
Or maybe an injection
To keep away infection
Clean water to drink
From a tap in a sink
Or someone to love me
Yes the best things ARE free

Debra Have a look at Keith Moon Sunday's post. A few members could maybe do a joint one. I know I'd appreciate this at times!
