Dear 'New people', whoe'er you are
Run away and make it far
For Tanza's on the prowl this day
Don't hang about, "make haste" I say!

I wouldn't mind a friendly touch
But eating me? A bit too much
Considering we've only just
Now been acquainted...but if you must.

A Sad Morning

Awake again,
Left arm dead,
Fallen asleep on it again.
A moment of panic,
Realisation sets in,
Hold it up, count to ten.

Look out the window,
A sunny day,
But there’s nothing I want to do.
Roll back over,
A stretch and a scratch,
Should I wait, or go to the loo.

Look at the spot,
Where my ex once lay,
A mix of regret and relief.
Twas fun for a while,
She broke my heart,
Then ran with it, like a thief.

I wake to birdsong, and the dawn reflected by my wardrobe mirror.
My bedclothes, hugging me like a lover's embrace, urge me to stay.
I lay a while in thought and prayer, letting the joy and hope of life build.
Then, covers cast aside, I begin my day.

I wash and dress, then head downstairs.
Cereal and coffee whilst immortals battle to keep their heads.
A quick survey of sequential graphical arts,
A box of sandwiches slung together,
Then, I am on my way.

Black road beneath, blue sky above, and the green of trees and fields each side.
Behind me, the sun pours out it's brilliance and warmth.
More joy, more prayer, as each mile brings the memory of another blessing, or thoughts of a friend's need.

Too soon, I am at work, yet that too is joy, but I will tell that another time.

How wide's a poem? What's its diameter?
And what is iambic pentameter?
A technique that old Bill Shakespeare adored
Something of which he never did grow bored.
Ten beats per line is how it ought to go
A steady beat, five iambs in a row
But rules it seems were made to be broken
This line, for instance, contains a small token
An extra syllable for your pleasure
Eleven, not ten beats is the measure.

a doodle... just for fun.

Why do spiders build a web
Without a tiled roof?

No shelter there without a care
Less than waterproof

In wind and rain he hangs on tight
A task he so enjoys

Never seems to have a care
worries not of noise

No doors to open glass to clean
And always fresh and gleaming

could it be he builds a web
to cut out all the cleaning?

I doubt it is the simple truth
our spider seems so busy

Round and round he spins his silk
So rarely getting dizzy

Well maybe he just likes fresh air
And dangling from his castle

Or maybe building tiled roofs
Is just a load of hassle.

What thought has he of human needs
Or why he needs to shelter

He spins his web and stands well back
And says "wow that's a belter!"

Doodles (or lack of, thereof)

I admire people who doodle
I really do
To be able to

Draw off the cuff
On scrap
On tap

Best I can do
Is wiggles
And squiggles

On the corners of notes
Nothing fancy
Like DaVinci

Yes, a skill I admire
That I'd like to acquire
But would require

Talent and dexterity
I don't have.
Oh well,

Lines will do.
Doodly-do.

It burns, like the butterfly, shedding it's palace of ice, while green dreams fall from a sky full of mourning.

It screams, like the fish that swim in the desert sun, dying as they are born and never knowing the ocean's kiss.

It is lost, like summer warmth on a midwinter's day, like a bluebell in a graveyard of thorns.

It hides, like a shadow at the heart of a starless night, like an idyll of joy amid a night of terror.
