This mind is a gaol And you, it’s only inmate. You stay up past the gaoler’s bedtime And rise before his last dream Is in the can. You are active the long day through Keeping the gaoler from More important work. Never hiding in web-filled corners But ever restless, demanding his attention. He sits to eat, you beat the bars. He checks the halls still hearing your calls. You know how to drag him back To you - incessantly you batter At the walls until he aches To see another face.
He would let you out But it seems you have A life sentence. Maybe his only hope, Of reprieve will come Upon the sentencing of A noisier felon.
