This was a response to a wee challenge - a Shakespearean sonnet but "without all that thee and thou stuff." So, check the scansion, count the iambs, sniff the glove; cos Rock and Roll is here to stay...
Quote:
This kid Elvis, all leather, hips, and sneer
Shook his ass and scared a generation
But we all laughed 'cause we could smell their fear
Hey pops, meet the man who's our salvation
Jerry Lee, scandal 'bout his baby bride
Stocking tops, Chantilly lace a-peekin'
New stars in heaven, those young Gods who died
But darlin' the killer is still speakin'
Magic music, Murry on our station
Lips brushing lips, the smell of sweet perfume
Little Richard screams his invocation
a-wop-bop-a-lu-bop-a-lam-bam-boom
Touch the music each and every day
'cause baby, rock and roll is here to stay
Thank you very much. Slinger has left the building.
