It was dark Philomena, it's not easy to snatch someone from a galloping horse. Your injuries are minor. You could have lost much more than your shoes that night. You were riding with an assassin.

Styer was called in from the Borderlands, given his orders to eliminate threats to the High Council. We became aware of this from our spies. Of which I am one.

After I took you, we led Styer on a false trail, planted mermaid's blood to think you'd put up a struggle and been kidnapped by your own. Human's have enough to contend with without making war on your kind.
*He nods*.
