The Queen is mad, so I've heard, she never leaves her castle, doubt she'll ever visit this tavern. I might be able to point you in the right direction. I've heard that there are a few outlanders roaming the mire this night, I hope they're not bounty hunters... I see Kellerman has put up a few wanted posters, I dare say that a few more will go up over the next few days.

Worse news still, several hooded riders were seen galloping through Uther's Woad a couple of nights ago. Know anything about them Urat?

Oh, I did come in for a drink, I get thirsty hiding out in Darkwood... I'd like a pint of your best ale, and I've brought a deck of cards, so I'll head for the gaming table. I see that Darius is trying his hand as usual. He plays at cards as badly as he handles a sword.

The I shall visit her, however the castle is unpentrable without invatation, maybe Tanza knows a back door ;)

A glass of wine Urat, my darling. A large one. On my way here two men tried to rob me! They waved their swords about and shouted at me, shouted rudely. I have been here enough days to see what fools men become for a few measly coins but surely everyone knows it is bad luck to steal from a mermaid? Evidently not. Anyway, I sang a little song and those silly robbers will wake up once they are in the heart of Grimney Wood. Next person who tries to rob me so rudely will find themselves on Slattern Moor or at the very least curled up next to the hog but let us hope there is no need for that.

Is there any news of poor Willow? My pearls seem to have achieved a stay of execution but no release. I do hope she will be released without any violence. I'm sure there is a way this can all be settled nicely, maybe ending with a friendly song and a glass of ale?

I think I may head over to Riverfleet Dwellings, to visit a fairy there called Saolálainn. Do you know her? Like all fairies, she's a smug little beast but she can do absolutely amazing things to your eyelashes and has the best intensive skin treatments in Grimney. I hate to say it but she's a genius. Hmmm now, more wine I think.

Skin treatments good lady?! Surely not, but all that river and salt water can dry the skin.

Saolálainn. I have heard of her, I've never met her mind. I was never fond of fairies, generally troublesome, although I must learn not to judge an entire species on the basis of the few I’ve met, that is Bolte and Scribes way not mine. Still, a gang of them destroyed Jeremiah’s Grimati plants last week, they were stealing leaves to make new wings. Hmm, I am not the kind of man who has skin treatmnets, I think they’d play havoc with my beard.

Oh yes, glass of wine coming up! A large one as always, and served as you like it, with a single rose. As I know you like those Philomena.

Robbed?! That mire needs cleaning up, there are some dreadful characters roaming around there. I blame much of the trouble for the increase in thievery on Grimwood’s harsh taxes. You sang them to sleep and into Grimney wood. You have a wicked streak, but they do indeed need to be taught a lesson. Slattern Moor is a deathtrap, the Zoorban dwell there, skin hunters, ghastly creatures. As for the hog, I have always been quite fascinated by him. He’s mostly asleep, I don’t know if he’s dangerous.

Willow. I liked Willow, she is not the only person to go missing, there have been several over the years. Yes, Max Slaughter is obviously connected to her kidnap, as I heard that she was going to be killed, but your kindness has spared her that. Violence, yes, always best avoided, but another one of her friends has hired a man who is more bloodthirsty than the suspected kidnappers, so I don’t know what will happen next. I hope the bounty hunter finds her location first. I do hope that things can be settled, as you say, nicely.

Oh, I’ve heard that a boat is sailing for Vorgania soon, I think it is Captained by a mysterious man named Edward Low, his ship is called the Merry Christmas, a very odd name. I don’t think he is currently in Grimney, he’s at sea, but he’s looking for a new crew, perhaps you could hire a sailor to go with him to look for your father? I know that Low would not allow a mermaid on board, they are considered bad luck. Just a thought mind. I hope you like the wine! :D

A wicked streak? Perhaps but only when provoked. I am usually such a good girl normally. The silly thing is, if they needed nmoney I would have given it to them gladly. There are a thousand treasure ships wrecked beneath the waves and we merfolk do not trade in coins. The money is useful up here but replaceable and I do not like to see people in need. However when people wave their swords about and make dire threats it makes me cross. Mermaids are not to be crossed.

Ah what a delightful rose. I shall wear it in my hair and visit some sailor friends of mine. Sailors are the best of humans, they know to treat a mermaid with respect. I wouldn't want to go on a ship again, I've only been once and was horribly sick. Talk about bad luck! It was for those swabbing the deck.

I was passing through the poetry vault earlier, strange that such things as creativity should be hidden beneath us in that underground labyrinth, but the powers that be work in mysterious ways. I was touched by your poem. A father can mean so much especially once you lose them.

I know you like roses. I have seen. I think you are from the beyond, as Cora was. But I won't ask too many questions. Captain Low is from that realm too. Not to be trusted. A pirate. Send someone tough! Choose carefully.

I like the idea of mermaids diving above the greedy treasures of the dead, and gathering the money to give away. You mus be careful, the greedy and the needy in Grimney are hard to tell apart. As for sailors, I shall look out for one, and send him to you when I have found him.

Yes. I would warn you that there are as you know a criminal element who will play upon your generous nature. Deciding who is needy and who is greedy can be tricky. I have to be careful, as I don't want to offend anyone. Although, you are confident and have traveled far so I doubt you have much to worry about.

What lies beneath. Such an interesting thought. Waist deep in the water I seem to be just a beautiful woman but it is the tail below that makes who I am, whether visible or not. The poetry vault is where we all show what we conceal beneath the surface.

Ohhhh a pirate, how fun. I do like pirates, so gentlemanly to mermaids and yet so vicious to their own kind! It is our stormbrewing songs they love the most, though it leads them close to death. Every pirate is a little bit in love with death, although they swear it is treasure they seek.

By the way, have you heard rumours of a kelpie in Grimney? The fairies swear they caught a glimpse of one. Beautiful white horse with a mane like green seaweed and eyes that glitter like rubies. If one has wandered into this land, I'd dearly love to catch him. Do not approach him if you see him, just let me know where he is and whatever you do, don't let him learn your name.

Grimwood Scribes dislikes art and poetry, and that’s why creatives are forced to perform below ground in the Vault. It was because Scribes artistic efforts and poetry was laughed at when he opened a gallery to show off his work, ever since that day he has hated anyone who shows the slightest bit of creativity. Very sad, but the man has a monstrous ego.

Not sure Captain Edward Low is a gentleman pirate, he is indeed vicious. I think he might be undead, if not that he has very bad skin. His first mate is more likeable, and exerts a positive influence.

A Kelpie? Tell me more :o Never seen such a creature, I thought they were a myth. I am fascinated. Sounds like a beautiful creature. I hope that it does not gallop into the path of Jacob Vale, he’s a savage trophy hunter. Horrible man. I will keep an eye out for the kelpie, I too would dearly like to see one! :D

Kelpies are from the other place too, but since their lakes and rivers have become so filthy I believe some have slipped into Grimney to find a new home. They are breathtaking, their coat is white like starlight and their manes are the green of spring grass. They look like the finest bred horse you can imagine, with an elegant head and eyes that burn the brightest ruby. If you stroke them they are always wet and as cold as a drowned sailor. Kelpies can be a little naughty and like luring humans on their back and then plunging into the river to drown them but in my capable hands it will be quite safe and won't drown your customers.

Hi Urat,

A large glass of the amber please! I'm glad to see you. There's some strangeness out there I can tell you; and not the kind of strangeness that I've grown so fond of in your bar :D
You've had some interesting characters in here recently I hear, I look forward to meeting the mermaid Philomena, she sounds very interesting.

Oh, and I rescued a girl called Isadora from a brute that was pretending to be a healer. She's my gathering girl, or she will be once she's recovered from her wounds. He won't be bothering anyone any more but there were others. Watch out for more than the normal levels of sanctimoniousness. At least with our priestly/healer types we know they are what they say they are. I'd point out any newcomers to Wayland. He's top of the tree when it comes to that kind of thing.

Oh, there's someone that owes me a drink, See you in a little while!
