I wouldn't think a General from the Militia would be too fond of mermaids. As for the law, it has its place to protect the vulnerable but it is often misused. I am a friend to any who will be my friend, outlaw or law-abiding citizen. I've even been know to be friends with a knight.
Can I buy you two gentlemen a drink?

Gringor is fond of the ladies, but often finds them more dangerous than neathlin. I'll have an ale, but watch the froth, Bracewind tends to give you half a glass of the stuff.

The Militia are not fond of mermaids, or any race other than human.... I tried to change its structure, and fell foul of Sir Grevil Laine. That spoiled little monster will pay his price someday soon I warrant.
Why should you, be looking for a notorious villain like Vortigern Jett?

Sir Grevil Laine? I've never heard of him but I am sure I will dislike him. If you are ever in the mire and go to Holme's Tavern, I shall pour you a lovely pint. On the house.
Vortigern and I have history... mainly a happy one. I need to ask him a favour and no doubt he will make sure I do him a bigger favour in return.
