SOMETHING THERE

Looking down into the hole
I stare
Nothing there
Faces grin and laughter explodes

More come to stand and mock
It's gone
A torch is shone
No-one moves just giggles now

Peering in I try to see it
They too
Do what I do
We all lean and nearly fall in

I know I saw it right there
Too late
I had to wait
Until they came with prying eyes

I see them off my land
I'm cross
The torch I toss
But then its head pops up again

Looking down into the hole
I stare
Something there
Little alien you showed me up
