Hiring assassins? That would not go down well, that's why Debra Cobra is being hunted by the Chaos Engine.

Hmm, he may have read it, we shall see, I shall tell you what the letter says if it is safe to do so. As for involving Drake, we don''t want his men back here, they'd post more knights and take Kalvos away due to his injuries.

I agree with you there Philomena. Always fighting, always feuds. Nothing changes. He probably is an enemy of the mire people, but only the bad ones, but it’s hard to know who is good and who is bad these days, and those that make the judgement on both sides are sometimes far worse than those that they judge.

Sweeney does not get kissed often, only by his ma. So that was obviously something pleasing for him. Tobias Tave’s colleagues are more of a problem, they’d like to start a war in the mire.

Kalvos will come to no harm under this roof my dear ladies. Yes Holme’s Tavern is a sanctuary, I agree with your oracle fish Philomena, even though they probably have very short memories.

Kalvos will be protected by all of us. I’m sorry you were put in danger last night Philomena, I may hire a warrior to defend the property, and to keep you all safe.

Gwenllian you are courageous and considerate, but I would be most upset if you had to fight, and were injured in the process. You're an artist and a singer, not a warrior. Likewise, you are that too Philomena.

I am glad the young knight is mending. A small ale please, perhaps a litte soup. Most kind you are to a weary old man.

Yes retirement. I hope not, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. You have both been a blessing here, as has eve and Xibes, you're quite a team.

Now, when I’ve finished my ale, and my soup I must go and lie down as I am feeling slightly unwell, I think I am rather tired, life in Grimney can be very hectic sometimes.

Do help yourselves to whatever you like, and stay if you wish. My home is yours, and there is always a room for you two. I must retrieve my letter from Sweeney, I imagine he's hiding in his room. His memory box? Yes, that has a key, he stores everything of value in there, he's sentimental I think. :D

Hire a warrior? Oh make sure he's young and handsome. Sweeney thinks you might be taking food to old friends who find the tavern is now unsafe. If that is true and you see a one eyed friend, please thank him for me and tell him I have had no trouble since he helped. He'll know my meaning.

Yes, Gwenllian and I are intrigued...

Sweeney says that?.... Hmmm does he indeed? Sweeney is always making assumptions, sometimes people try to make me more than what I actually am.

Yes, the best warriors are in their forties I find. Means they've lasted, and grown a little wiser. I shall see what I can do in regards to their looks, the ones without scars are often the best, often means they've fought and never been injured.

Philomena you mentioned a one eyed friend before, or did I dream it? Yes I know who you mean. He shares your love of roses, and art. Between you and me he is indeed an admirer of yours.

I shall indeed mention this if I see him, I shall not pry but I must say we would both like to know more. The soup is delicious. :)

Philomena do you think we need to sit with Kalvos tonight or is he well enough to be left alone ?
If someone needs to be there, if you take the first watch, I will releive you at dawn as I know you like to swim as the suns are rising :)

It is a bit of a strange tale. As you know I am very beautiful and also considered rather exotic and have quite a few admirers... Well one of my admirers was very wealthy and a collector of beautiful things. He built a large glass pond in his garden and asked me to live there so he could look out his window and watch me swim every day. I refused if course, mermaids are not to be kept as tame pets in a fish bowl. But this wealthy man didn't believe that there was anything that cannot be bought so he hired some men to follow me through the mire and take me to live there against my wishes. But Vance had overheard them in the tavern and stopped them as they tried to take me. He then offered to persuade my persistant admirer that mermaids a free creatures and are not to be kept in cages. l have had no trouble since. I prefer not to know how he accomplished this.

You know he Vance is an admirer of mine? Has he talked of me ever? This is a story best kept between us three.

Yes I shall take first watch with Kalvos dear Gwen.

You’re not a thing Philomena! Beautiful you maybe, but to see only beauty is to see without looking particularly deeply. :? Well, at least tha’s what I think anyway. Hmm... Vance, he's a noble outlaw. It’s unfortunate that the money and power is in the hands of the wrong people.

Who was this ghastly collector?

Vance has indeed talked of you. He might be a bit old for you my dear. I’ve always liked Vance, and we’ve spent a fair time together, that's before all the trouble began and he fell foul of Grimnwood Scribes. You know his gang the White Scorpions were actually beneficial to the poorer mire folk. Times change. He still has some powerful friends mind, if only Grimwood knew, fortunately he doesn't.

Well, I have finished my soup and now I must sleep, I shall have to read Sweeney’s letter in the morning. Goodnight ladies, don’t stay up too late. You need your sleep too! I shall check in on Kalvos just before sleep. :D

He has spoken of me, I'm so glad. Sometimes I visit the gwump just to hear his stories of Vance. It sounds silly I know. I don't think he's too old for me at all, Tempest was 46 when I met him and I was only 19 back then, admittedly it did not end well but that was more to do with him massacring the crew of the Golden Fox than the age gap. I wonder whether Vance might risk a visit to the tavern while Kalvos is still bed bound. Do you think I would be better off with a young man like Kalvos? I think the story would end equally unhappily.
The collector? Humbert Hootstraten but please don't tell me if something terrible has happened to him, I prefer to believe it was sorted out with a nice chat over dewberry tea. :?

Sleep well Urat dear, I shall bring you up some breakfast after my morning swim.

Dear old Gwump, now there is someone who needs a little love, although you and Vance are just what he needs.

Tempest massacred the crew of the Golden Fox? What a wretch, glad I've never met the man. That was a merchant vessel I thought!

Vance may chance to risk his life for you, but if he was to run into Kalvos there would be some kind of challenge, and I think Kalvos at this point would come off worse.

I really don't know how suitable they are for you Philomena. :? After all Kalvos will probably go off to war, and Vance will probably spend his last days hiding from the authorities.

I doubt that your future would be that bright with either of them, you seem to pick very unsuitable suitors my dear.

Humbert Hootstraten, now I have heard of him! Very successful man, but extremely selfish.

Vance would have taken a fairly firm approach, but I can't imagine that the collector came to any real harm. Vance prefers to talk things through, and generally uses violence as a last resort.

Yes goodnight my dear, Gwenllian is watching over Kalvos at present, I hope you all get a little bit of sleep this night.
