Distant lanterns are good, unless you see them in a circle and moving closer. Nasty creatures Zoorban. I hope your spell works too, although Xibe’s mother sounds very powerful. We shall see what happens.
Xibes and Kalvos.... Hmm, perhaps there is something.. I don't know.... The knight is indeed hunting the assassin, but Grimney can well do without assassins Philomena, he's clearly a cold blooded killer.
Kalvos is devoted, but I think he is a good man too. I think the nature of the Queen’s Elite is to abandon love, because life is short. To die without love is indeed a tragedy, but perhaps it is worse for the loved ones left behind? The war, best not to think about that, it won't bother us, and I rarely read the news.
I’ve never met the Gwump, I cannot swim. I know he paints, but I have never seen his work, Vance speaks highly of him mind. I don’t travel far, I just tend the bar and ride my cart to Toraz market to gather supplies. The Gwump is painting again?! That is good news! You must have inspired him. I know that after he was injured he stopped for a time.
Yes, I am keen to see Silas again! Where is your beau Lamorek? I’ve not seen him lately. Glad you are still a regular. He saved you? Do tell?!
Does your kelpie have a name?

What is the difference between a soldier and assassin except one is protected by the law? They are both paid to kill. I think Kalvos is an honourable man, I just cannot trust one of Drake's men. He must have been spying on us to hear. No-one can abandon love completely, it happens as naturally as breathing.
I wish I could take credit for the Gwump painting again but it is down to Vance. The gwump worships him and misses him greatly. The kelpie does have a name but it is his to tell you and I'm sure he will tell you at some point when he's ready.
Ah my sweet handsome lad has returned to Toraz, he was very handsome but a little dull so I sent him away. He will settle down and marry a nice girl soon I should think.
Silas saved me when I was a mere merbaby and got caught in some nets. He gathered me in his arms and refused to toss me overboard. When he saw my mother he lowered himself down with a rope and handed me to her. That is why my people love him and sing stormy seas calm when he sails.

I used to be a soldier Philomena, and it isn’t about fighting the enemy, it’s about fighting for your friends. I never killed a man out of hate or anger, I fought for survival. I fought for Grimney against Draygon the Scar’s hoards and to keep our land safe. I was paid to kill, but not in the way an assassin operates, that man rode into Toraz and killed a doctor, a nurse, and that defenceless boy. I would never do that.
Kalvos has been sent to watch us, and he must have been hand picked by Gideon, and trusted to have ridden here beside that man. So, you are wise to be cautious. Once you leave the Queen’s services you are often too old to make a family, and the cruelty of war can leave you empty.
Hmm, I suppose you are looking for a new beau now? The kelpie talks? My goodness, I’m most surprised.
Yes Silas, a jolly sort if I remember, I wonder why he did not return here after the boat sank. It’s good that a human can be loved by mermaids, a most unusual thing to occur!Good for race relations mind.

*eve naive rushes in throws herself face first on the nearest table and buries her head in her folded arms, her little wings tremble with her sobs*
I've lo-ost Xibes. I've lost her!

*eve naive stands up and wipes her face with her hands leaving smudgy silver streaks*
Xibes ca-me hoo-ome last night and she was being so-o strange *sniffs* and hardly said a word to me...I don't know whatever can be wrong.
*eve naive furrows her brow*
Then when I woke she had gone and it was so cold...but I made her pancakes and laid the table and she still had not returned..so I went out..outside. There was an icy trail and I thought a very bad thing had happened. I followed it a long way to the bottom of the mountains but they were so steep and stark that I was too fearful and flew all the way back here!
I am so ash-aaamed!
*eve naive flings herself back on the table and sobs some more!*

Hush eve, we will help Xibes. Don't worry. Urat, what is to be done? Do we have any choice but to ask Kalvos to help?

Oh my goodness. You must have a thimble full of brandy, it might stop you shaking. What should we do? Yes Philomena, Kalvos, he might assist, but he's ridden off after that assassin. I thought Kalvos was watching over you eve? He must have returned too soon.
We must send out a search party! I will ask for help from the patrons, surely someone here would be brave enough to search for her?! Do we have any volunteers?!

It may not be how it appears, perhaps Xibes decided to confront her mother herself, to protect eve. I can make Kalvos return, a siren call would make him return to here.

I hear you. It's a job for a big wheel. I'm a ranger from Frith. If you want my help, I'll ride out to the mountains, but it'll cost you a weeks bed and board Urat and six bottles of arkan brandy. Think it over, I'm not an enemy of fairy folk. I'll be outside tending my horse if you wish to find me.
