The hottest coal in a raging fire
Birdsong from a sleepy byre
Monsoon rains from foreign shores
Secret keys to secret doors
These I’ll find and these I’ll bind
Wrap them up and make them new
These are things I’ll give to you

May dew on poppy leaves
Salty tears a widow grieves
Woodash from a burning house
Silence, silent as a mouse
These I’ll gather, these I’ll get

Apples from an autumn tree
Laughter laughed in childhood glee
Lovers’ sighs and sweet goodbyes,
Jealousy and compromise
These I’ll foster, these I’ll find
Wrap them up and make them new
These are things I’ll give to you

Mayflies on a summer lake
The freshest bread your mother bakes
Stormy skies, lightning bolts
Thund’ring hooves of night-black colts
These I’ll buy, these I’ll bring
Wrap them up and make them new
These are things I’ll give to you

For I am enchanted as the tides
Mesm’rised by a moonbeam bride
I cannot rest, I cannot sleep
Drowning in this great dark deep
I hold a hand, you are not there
I scream at night, you do not care.

Madness and a hungry ghost
Shipwrecks on a rocky coast
Desolation, fear and pain
Every day that feels the same
These you magiced, these you’ve made
Wrapped them up and tied the bow
These are things you made me know

You left me rotting in this hell
My fate engulfed me and befell
A feeling that has strength to kill
I hate you though I love you still
Take this now, it’s all I have
And kiss me as you breathe your last
I’ve wrapped it up, I’ve made it new
This knife is all I have for you.
