Indeed Urat I do spend much of my time in the Poetry Vault, but I like to come here sometimes to sit in the corner and people watch (I use the term people loosely!) I t feeds my imagination. Speaking of food is there any Radigan pie? and another glass of wine if you please

My admiring outlaw? Hmmm are the tongues of Grimney already wagging? I shall say nothing more except I wish he would speak to me instead of just watching silently from the shore. He seems so alone in the world and I'm sure I could find a way to make his heart to be less heavy if only for a couple of hours.

So glad you like the comb. Just thought of you as soon as I saw it. The necklace is rather sparkling and attention grabbing but the emerald matches my eyes exactly. Hopefully the news of what happened to the last people who tried to rob me will act as a deterrent.


Have you heard anything more of the kelpie? I think I shall pay Wayland a visit. The waterfall sounds just the place to add a bit of sparkle to my scales.

I'll gladly take a glass with you Philomena, not much people watching for me to do, every eye is upon you! I'm not sure that such hypnotic beauty is I burden I'd care to bear, but you seem to manage it very well.
I have never met a mermaid before and should like to hear more of your race

I'm considered rather exotic in these parts although I am not the only mermaid in Grimney, I am visiting my cousin Cassandra who lives in Grimney lake. I find the lake a bit small for I am a Sea mermaid but salt water or fresh us mermaids are pretty much the same. We spend most of our days sitting on rocks combing our hair, that as you can see is very long and beautiful. Our most precious possession is our comb but we are also very fond off mirrors too as we cannot resist gazing at our beautiful faces. We like to sing as we comb our hair and our songs are where our powers lie. We can use our songs to control men's minds and summon storms. Merfolk are mostly kind to humans though and we bring luck to those we like. Our cousins the sirens are more cruel and use their voices to lure sailors to their doom, but not us, unless provoked. As with all water folk we can be rather changeable, not always faithful as our love waxes and wanes with the moon, but we make good friends and love to hear the poems and stories of others.

Now what manner of creature are you? You look human to me, are you a sorceress?

Yes, another glass most certainly. Sounds very romantic. I am intrigued to know who this outlaw is, hard for me to guess from your description as most outlaws are very lonely.

The necklace is indeed very pretty.... News travels fast, but if it is very valuable, there will be those who would chance their hand to take it. There are several leather armoured men in the corner alcove watching you through the pipe weed smoke, and whatever their thoughts, I doubt they have any honour, for I know of these men...

As for the kelpie, I still know very little of these creatures, as long as they don't stray on to the moors they should be quite safe... There are traders who farm rare meat and I hate to say but their flesh would fetch a very high price.

There are too many strangers here tonight for me to tell you more but it is a patron of yours. Perhaps he may speak to you of me sometime. If he does, please tell him to speak to me next time he visits the lake. He is the only one who doesn't and yet he is the one I want to speak to the most. Perhaps he doesn't like my tail.

Yes, those men in the corner disguise their intentions poorly. I shall slip out while this storm rages high. They shall be beaten back by that wall of rain. I shall be perfectly safe in that storm though, it is my own doing.

I believe I am human Philomena, though truth to tell I am not entirely sure, my recollections of my early life are very hazy, there is something that is is always just out of the grasp of my memory. When I have asked my family about it they shied away from giving me much detail, as both my parents are now sadly dead, I have come to Grimney in the hope that here there will be someone who knows something of my origins. But for now I am content to be called human
