I look over my shoulder
and what do I see...
laughing friends
a blue drop handlebar bike
a rope swing over the river
wet socks slapping against a rock
wood pigeons cooing fear
long summer evenings
with the smell of new mown hay
green-kneed jeans and a sweat bound brow
ginger bread
a runny nose, runny eyes
and clouds of pollen dust
a bril-creamed quiff
bigboy bullies and salty tears
chalk scraping the blackboard
clattering drop-lid desks
and
ink blots
heeling marble holes in new tar macadam
axes, bowie knives,
catapults and bows and arrows
games of chicken and blaring horns
treetop views
me spread-eagled on a dung heap
and dusk-time calls to home...

This is very good...it really made me remember my youth...minus the dung heap bit. I wonder what poems the kids of today will be writing about their childhood years from now...and will they be written in text speak?
