I am a child of the trembling seas,
First air I breathed was salty breeze.
My heart belongs to the swelling waves,
The briny depths are what it craves.

I am a child of waters green,
Belonging to the world marine.
Oh take me to the depths below
Under the waves I wish to go.

I am a child of the sparkling waters
One of Poseidon’s aquatic daughters
My soul ebbs and flows with the tide
On foam-white horses I do ride.

I am a child of the boundless waves,
Freer than the land born slaves.
One day shall I return to my home,
Beneath the waves bright foam?

I love this Philomena! One of the best you've written! Can see how you've been spending your time!

Brings out the true mermaid in you. I agree with the others, liked that a lot.

Thanks all. I grew up by the sea and I always wanted to be a mermaid when I grew up. Also fits in with my favourite evolutionary theory, the Aquatic Ape Hypothesis. Whether it is true or not, I want it to be true.

Did you? And you are! Me... I never grew up by the sea, and I never wanted to be a clam. Funny how things sometimes flip over into the reverse. Fine poem Philomena! The Aquatic Ape? Sounds odder than me! :D
