'What's in a name?'
A maid in love once asked.
Her heart and mind at War,
Until reconciled at the dagger's point.

'Leave me my name!'
A man accused once begged.
Choosing the hangman's noose,
Rather than soil those two words.

I sacrifice my father's name
Slowly but Swiftly for love.
Twinning my husband's long past
With the echoes of my mother's ancestors.

I like the poem Philomena, but not sure I understand it. Reads really good though.

I got married three years ago and only just changed my name. It is just a pondering on the significance of names. Didn't realise how big a deal it was for me to change my surname.

Like the poem. As for me, I've never been married! Boyfriends are enough, couldn't marry one! :o

Cool words Philomena, but not something that'll ever bother me. Keep it up. Grmney's got a lot more engaging lately, and it's free. ;)

:) It might do one day Raven, as my husband has taken part if my maiden name too. I had a double-barrelled maiden name, just dropped my paternal surname and replaced with my husband's. I'm a very modern mermaid and don't stand for this patriarchal nonsense. It is nice that my son, husband and I all have the same name.

Clara, I half agree with you about boyfriends but I hate taking the bins out myself. ;) Also before we lived together when I was ill he used to play Rachmaninoff on the piano down the phone to me, how could I resist that?

A names a name
Just as long as your heart stays the same
If it don't changing it brings no shame
But lets you start again
