I am at a loss with this piece that I have been working on for a few weeks, but have hit a brick wall for the last line.
Am wondering if it might be better to scrap the whole last verse?
Any how, here is (for what its worth)

THE EX FRACTAL

Its that time again in TV land
when karaoke is thrust onto the stage
A pair of jokers cracking their smiles
and a panel of experts, proffering their best

Your not the best, but you’re getting there
Dont think that you’ve already made it
There’s always room for compromise
HA! that really brings you down to size

You look like your doin’ alright
away from home almost every night
Trying to succeed where others have failed
Its the heavens your looking at, but watch your step

Giving it your all, is all you know how
if punk were new, you’d be Malcolm M
Pulling in the punters with mirrors and smoke
selling snake oil to indians and music to mugs

You claim its not money, but talent you seek
With a word to the wise and a nod to the past
all that you touch is gold dressed as brass

Please try to finish this,

Yes, do finish it. It'll probably come to you in a split second while you're least expecting it. I'd want to finish it by saying something about them being famous while it's all going on, but fading away if they really haven't got what it takes. It really is a wonder how we all sit watching these people...like we know them. I haven't a clue what their names are even a few short weeks after the final. I know...I'm getting old, but...still. It seems to be better if you don't actually win...no pressure etc. Who was the first ever winner of the X Factor?..and where are they now? ... Can anyone tell me without Googling?

Yes, keep going.

By the way, I am a Lexx fan as well!

Maybe it's not the last line that is missing but one earlier in the verse?

Seems like a good last line to me

:D

Tanza,

It was Steve Brookstein, an averagely talented, white, pub circuit soul singer. I know because I was there. Why was I there? My lovely late wife was a production accountant on the show so I had a free ticket. I was cheering for G4, not because I liked them but because they weren't Steve Brookstein. Where is he now...I'm assuming he's back on the pub circuit where he belongs.

I used to watch it regularly when she worked on the show...mainly so I could cheer when I saw her name in the end credits. When she switched departments, the show was filed under "S" for...

I would argue that it was "good telly" when it first came out. Nowoadays, I would argue that it's a sad indictment of today's cult (yes, I said CULT) of celebrity obsessed society. Awful.
