Pigeon hats On stately form Stands erect With face forlorn Secrets told may Pass his way They go no further He’ll not say. Naked ‘neath The stony stare His sturdy feet Are cold and bare. I gaze at him So tall and proud Wonder if his voice was loud. Was he clever, Bold and strong, Always good or did he wrong? Did his woman Love him true And pledge to him As I to you? So many miles And passing years Between us now Yet still the tears The flowing stream Of broken dreams Keeps running Foolish though it seems. My shoes come off To him I wade Barefoot in Paris And so you fade. |
