Isn’t it strange
When you sit in the room
Switch off the television
And hear the soughing of the silence.
I am sure I heard the
Air moving imperceptibly
And the wind in the chimney flue grumbling.
With my eyes closed I
Even heard my lungs
Resting
And the air in my ears
Beating a rhythm I cannot tap
And the blood in my veins
Babbling a tune I cannot sing
And outside the wind heckling the night
With restlessness
And cars grumbling
And girls screeching
And the boys mumbling
And the night itself
Trembling.
And that is the sound of life
Without television.
It got me wondering!
