Being from the Red Rose land In the lee of Pendle Hill, To cunning work I turned my hand And cast back charms of hurt and ill. But the church could not leave me be And said my work was a Devil lie. Tomorrow they will set me free On the gallows hill where I'll hang high. This poem is 5 minutes old. I'll work on it some more. |

Well, it's a few days later, and no new lines have come to me, so it will have to stay as it is. James Device (aka Devis aka Davies) was a teenager, hanged with his younger sister, mother and six other people, after the infamous witch trials at Lancaster in 1612). |
