I'm proud to be white. But, hold on. I'm only white because my parents were white. What did I do to be proud? OK, I'm proud to be English. But, hold on. What did I do to become English? Just an accident of birth. OK, I'm proud to be Andersen, a fine English family. But, hold on. Andersen is Scandinavian name, so why Should I be so proud? OK. I'm proud to be a City fan, proud of my team. But, hold on. What makes my team better? They don't win more games. So why should I be proud. OK. I'm proud to be working class. But, hold on. If I'm proud to be working class, Why do I complain? OK. I'm proud to be... I'm proud to be... Hold on, what am I proud to be? Why must I be proud at all? You can't be proud of what you didn't earn Colour, race, nationality, or family name. You can't be proud for yourself for what others do. When your team scores a goal, it ain't about you. You can't be proud of the gifts of your birth Beauty, brains, strength, and talent are not what you're worth You can't be proud of the things that you do There's millions of others who're better than you Nothing to be proud of, not one thing I'm me. Just me Happy to be me. That's all. |
