The scented air of summers breath, the warming summer sun The fading call from Nightingale says Spring is on the run The cattle graze at snails pace the sheep are being shorn The cat has found the perfect place lay flat-out on the lawn The background air is filled with noise, a tune the insects play The crickets dance the loudest song as they go on their way The shimmer of the warming fields play tricks upon the eyes The land it seems to dance and leap towards the very skies The summer yields her grace and beauty bringing us this day The lazy brook now slowly warms, as trout in shadows stay The fields of corn bring colours bright, the insects sweetest potion The ripening oats and Barley sway like waves on deepest ocean The summer show the best on earth no tickets here to buy The limit just your senses and a clear blue open sky |

Plenty of critics... so it seems, but what the hell I am happy doing what I am doing. It's not all about fame and fortune. |

Modern critics think it is a crime to make a rhyme. Poor old Kipling, Housman, Yeats, Iceman, Blake, Arnold, etc., etc., etc. |

Redvilst your list is of the hallowed members of poetry's elite, hardly the same place you would find the ramblings of a rank amateur like me and the poor use of Her Majesty's English, but I do get your point, rhyme does seem to be a crime. Shame. |

Iceman, it isn't the rhyme, nor the meter, nor the verse. It isn't the words, or the eloquence. The important thing about poetry is the heart. I would prefer to read a thousand poems that are torn from the soul of a poet, than one which is a mere exercise in words. No insult to you, Glosnik. I'm still trying to work out one of those backwards-forwards things. |
