SO BORED, I HAD TO ENJOY MYSELF

Mum...slumped in her chair asleep
Watching Crossroads through eyelids
Too boring, but nothing else on
Meg Mortimer is still alive

How can she just fall asleep like that?
The television is on...I hate that
What a waste of time evenings are
Boring television and sleeping parents

Hungry and insanely bored to death
My daily telly time ended too soon
Jackanory is bookmarked until tomorrow
Play School is a simple distant memory

Blue Peter set sail without me again
Dougal is tucked up in bed with Florence
Even John Craven has deserted me
To go and be Spock on Star Trek probably

It's hometime again at Grange Hill
Trisha and Tucker bunked off anyway
I wonder what they'll be when they grow up
A policeman or someone from the East End maybe

Only one telly with only one thing on it
Nothing to watch but what they want
Coronation Street on later...old and boring
Never-endingly wasting my life away

At least the Secret Seven are having fun
As they grow up into the Famous Five
Enid Blyton has a lot to answer for
Making me wish I was them

Mum stirs and thinks about dinner
I look at her and then the telly
What a waste of my life when nothing's on
She turns if off...even more boring now

Just sitting indoors with nothing to do
Makes me want to get out and run a long way
So bored I get my bike and push it out
Outside where we're all bored the same

Riding up and down, we laugh childishly at it all
Fishing nets are waved like flags to attract us
Even dirty ponds are more exciting than home
We swipe the shallows for tadpoles and sticklebacks

Daylight darkens to tell us the time has come
Forgetting I was hungry makes me late
Food happens, like it always does...eventually
And talking doesn't stop as the fresh tablecloth is stained

More nothingness to endure...forever it seems
Playing cards with Dad is the only thing to save me
From slipping into a coma and hoping it lasts until morning
More of their telly encroaches on my precious time

Bruce Forsythe never shuts up...like Paul Daniels
Tommy Cooper's hardly on at all...just serious things
I hate the news...it gets in the way of everything
Why can't they just put Morcambe and Wise on every night?

We all sit round talking rubbish about each other's days
I know what they've been doing...they just go to work
I've had to sit at school bored out of my head all day
Waiting to come home for two hours of telly and then this

Bela Lugosi and Vincent Price can't help themselves
Always there on BBC2, trying to peep round my cushion
Dad lets me stay up late and shit myself
At the scariest films ever made

A house full of people with only one telly to share
No chance of getting another one...ever
Radio Rentals cons my Dad out of his wages
As does everyone he pays bills too...apparently

Ouch! What a lot of raves from the grave: Grange Hill; Tucker Jenkins; Jackanory. I'd forgotten about the lot of them. Almost a mention of Amy Turtle too! :D

Thanks for dragging me screaming down Memory Lane.

Oops! Of course, I meant Jason King!
And, I forgot a rather curious series called Tightrope.

Arrrrgh, Master Cybersmith. Memory overload imminent. I remember every last one of them. :o Appeared as an extra once in an episode of The Tomorrow People.

But now for my revenge: Fred Barker & Ollie Beak! Oh and let's not forget Lenny the Lion. ... On second thoughts, let's.

Ah, Wally Whyton. My mother was a playground attendant with his wife.

Right. Let's go down under.

Of course, you remember Skippy, but what about Tinga and Tucka? Magic Boomerang? Woobinda?

I was an Animal Magic fan myself. I can add a few programmes to your list, like Follyfoot, The White Horses, Belle and Sebastian, and, of course Heidi.

The boy with the worst dubbed voice ever. Yup, remember that but wish I didn't.

And these too. Space Patrol anyone?

[Edit: Ah, I see Space Patrol is already listed.]
