Among the poppies
Red as blood
Our bodies torn
And caked in mud
We bravely serve
The countless wives
Bring freedom to
Their children's lives

A service given
Out of love
As Queen and country
Sit above
Mere faceless pawns
So full of breath
Are qualified as
Fit for death

We buckle
Under others' reign
Beneath the years
Of bitter gain
So weak
But strong to soldier on
As leaders live
While we are gone

We kneel in shards
Of broken fear
From shattered days
That brought us here
With bloodied knees
We crawl away
Through pain and torture
Still we pray
