As a child
I often dreamed
But the world was not
As it always seemed
Days out and joyous picnics too
Innocence was all I knew
I played beside the tumbling stream
Ate strawberries, chocolate and icecream
My mother always stroked my hair
I thought that she would always care
My father was my guiding light
He chased the monsters
who hid at night
In my room beneath the bed
He loved me once
but he never said
Silence, darkness,
Replaced that world
Child abuse
And insults hurled
Drove me out when I grew older
With doubt and fear uopn each shoulder
I wait, I think
What lies ahead?
But the past is gone
Those dreams are dead.

Words can hurt as well as heal
They slice the parts we can't conceal
And try to drag us down to feel
Worthless

Don't let them make you feel small
Ignore the people, just walk tall
You'll walk to peace while they will fall
Down.

Great poems there, Sushi your poem seems to me to be a great response to ClaraJanegreeves. Both full of truth, sensitive but still harsh quite a balance to strike there.
Many thanks and much to think about.

Yes. I don't want to sound egotistical, but maybe it was directed at me. I think I should say thank you. A lot of very talented people on here. Makes me feel small, I wish I had talent, but that is not the way it is, not that I mind. We all have our limits. Yes, thank you ;)

Yeah, I guess we all need to know our limits little angel. Think you look better than you write, but your poems are cool girl. :D

Ropewalk

It starts with fibres, weak and fragile.
The fibres dance around each other, ever closer, ever tighter.
Becoming yarns strong enough to mend.

The yarns dance around each other, ever closer, ever tighter.
Becoming strands strong enough to bind.
The strands dance around each other, ever closer, ever tighter.
Becoming ropes strong enough to haul.

Ropes, made of strands, made of yarns, made of fibres.
We, weak as fibres, draw together ever closer, ever tighter,
Becoming strong enough to move the world.

Whilst climbing up a velvet snake
I chanced upon a melting shoe
It tasted like a chocolate steak
And sounded mauve, or was it blue?
It spoke to me in manganese
Without a word, and then it laughed.
I offered it some sparrow cheese
With which to make to heavy raft.
What happened next's a mystery
That half a second was protracted.
I fell into a poet tree,
I'm very easily distracted.

I love new people. They're so shiny. Can I touch them?

Only if you wash your hands first...

I want to touch the new people
It isn't really weird
I haven't washed my gnarly hands
But, I've plaited up my beard

I promise not to eat them all
It's not the weekend yet
But accidents do happen
After mugs of muscadet

So, meet me on a weekday
And don't bring any ale
Or you'll be quickly eaten
And I'll even eat your tail!
