old Tom was dead but nobody knew, his glass unused now for a month maybe two, it was a tankard they gave him for winning at darts, his laugh and his story’s touched all of their hearts.
his wife had passed many years ago, his life time love his own mighty Mo, so down to the Crown for a pint and a chat, "hey up old Tom look at the state of that hat"
they all knew the story and of course out it came, if he told it yesterday it never did sound the same, but his Mo had bought it in Holland or France, it was his token of love his story of romance.
he'd play the young lads at pool after a few, they all let him win he just didn't have a clue, he was happy when he left and all had said night night, he had a spring in his step his world felt alright.
but the Crown closed down the regulars gone, a tax hike too many for them to carry on, so Tom stayed at home and died in his bed, no mourning for him, no tears ever shed.
