It was the night before Christmas,
But in The Mongrel's Bar,
Not a creature was laughing,
No Christmas cheer here.

A man was hit by a boomerang
As he came in through the door
He rubbed his head, as he pondered
“This has happened before!”

Mary stood ‘neath the mistletoe
Waiting for her Christmas kiss.
A circus performer had a go,
At least he tried, but he missed.

A dachshund, armadillo, and firefly
Shared tales of love gone askew,
While a solitary miserable lemming
Wept, wondering what to do.

A polar bear, desperate for news of his kin
Listened to the shipping forecast.
A brown bear stared at his porridge bowl
His wife said it was his last.

A herd of elephants were there
At least there were signs that they’d been
Yet not one person could remember
If an elephant there he had seen.

A confused man in odd socks
Emerged from a duvet cover
He sat at a corner table
Which spontaneously became a sofa.

A cat sat eating salmon
While a man with a lead stood behind
He had no idea where he was
But he didn’t seem to mind.

No Christmas cheer here.
