We lie a certain which way
Otherwise
The sofa embrace
won't work.
An art form
That's taken years to perfect.
Reclining
Forty-five degrees into the corner
You
The bearer
Always to my right.
Me to your left.
You stretch out your legs
Crossing them at the ankles,
I lean into your side
Hand under my head
So I don't hear your heartbeat.
It frightens me
To hear your life ticking in my ear.
Because
I love you.
