Okay, this post is all about Psychoville. Anyone who knows me will be very aware that I adore this series.

I often wondered if there was something wrong with me, apart from the obvious. I chat with random people, listening to their views and opinions and being polite and courteous. That's okay, except the thoughts in my head don't always concur with what comes out of my mouth. While they're talking, I'm thinking of all the bad things that could happen to them while they're standing there, especially if they’re talking about shit. I imagine a building falling over and flattening them right in front of me. I ponder the possibility of a rhinoceros stampede occurring behind them and keep looking over their shoulder, almost willing it to be there...and heading straight for us. If only their head would come clean off for no reason at all and never be found again…or, if it is, can a vicar look down into the font during a christening and find it there? This is just an example of how my mind works sometimes and the sudden outbursts of laughter during conversations often freaks people out. I thought I was mad.

Most of my stories are twisted and mangled until someone, somewhere goes completely mad and tortures, murders or eats everyone. I recently wrote one which some thought should have kept the main character likeable and not turned her into a vicious killer with no conscience. What!!?? Imagine Freddy Krueger stopping to think for a second and saying...'You know what?...I think I'll just leave these poor kids alone!'. Get a grip!! Maybe vampires aren't the bastards we think they are...probably sitting at home in their rocking chairs, knitting quietly and wishing their teeth didn't keep cutting into their tongues as they sing along to Matt Cardle on the radio. Oh shut up!!! You see? Normality rots your insides...didn't you know that!??

THEN...I watched the first series of Psychoville and its altogether gruesome beauty washed over me, drowning me in complete and utter insane perfection until I was dead (I made that bit up). I sniffed up the Halloween Special and then the second series came along…thank you very much.

I realized I was not alone. There really are other people out there living seemingly normal family lives, yet harbouring the most ridiculously twisted ideas about what life should really be about.

I wont go into detail about plots and characters because the characters are changing and evolving all the way through and I think people should be given the opportunity to interpret Psychoville in their own unique way. You really need to watch the first series, then the 2010 Halloween Special and then series 2. I can't even begin to give you a synopsis of the story as a whole because, as I said before, the twists and turns are best experienced first-hand. This year’s Halloween Special? Bring it on!

If you have never watched Psychoville, please give it a try. You really will be amazed at the wonderfully dark madness and realize for yourself what a great imagination for black comedy the writers/actors have.

If, like me, you've watched it and loved it, I'd love to read your thoughts. Unfortunately, I recently heard that initial viewing figures for series 2 weren't encouraging enough to warrant a 3rd series. I was gutted...still am. However, I'm convinced that more and more people will be compelled to buy and rent the DVDs and watch re-runs on TV. One day, I really do hope to see a 3rd series brought about by a constant flow of fresh interest in Psychoville. I also hope the writers haven't become bored with the whole idea and decided to leave it dead in the water. Resuscitate please!

If you do decide to spend some quality time catching up on Psychoville, please remember…some things aren't meant to be understood and, sometimes, it’s better that way...but they can still be appreciated for their brilliance.

Okay, my Psychofantic rant is over.

On a lighter note...I'm always very intrigued at my own ability to forget the fact that the two fundamental writers/actors, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton play most of the parts. Sometimes, it's blatantly obvious it's the same person, but I just don't care. My mind blocks out any similarities and sees them only as the characters portrayed. Unfortunately, a certain aggravating person I know can't seem to get their head around it and doesn't leave me alone while I'm watching. Here is a brief description, in casual script form, that proves my point quite nicely. Fellow fans will get the drift…excuse our incorrect pronunciations…we are dead common.

Them: ...What you watching?
Me: ......Psychoville…go away.
