Herbie: Four lines? Archie: Four lines? Yes, sir. (He gets four washing lines from a drawer.) There you are. Herbie: No, four lines. Archie: Four lines, That’s four lines! Four washing lines! Herbie: No, four lines. Archie: Oh, four electric lines. We call them cables in the trade (He gets some electric cable from the back of the shop.) Anything else? Herbie: No, four lines. Archie: What? Oh, four lions? Growl, growl, bite, bite? Herbie: No, four poetry lines. Archie: Oh, poetry lines? We call that a quatrain in the trade. Or could be a Ruba'i. Depends on your preference, y'see. Sorry, sir, we're more of a sonnet company. We have some villanelles and sestinas, and haiku's have become more popular, but there's no demand for quatrains, y'see. Herbie: (Looks at his list.) Got any rhymes? Archie: Crimes? 'Ere, what you sayin'? Herbie: No, not crimes, Rhymes. Archie: Oh. That's all right then. What sort of rhymes? Herbie: What sort you got? Archie: Well, we got masculine, feminine, dactylic, syllabic, imperfect, semirhyme, oblique, assonance, consonance, half rhyme, alliteration, internal, tail, and holorhyme. What d'you want it for? HerbieL An ode. Archie: You want more than a quatrain for an ode. Good job you came to me. Herbie: No, an owed. Archie: An owed what? You paying off a debt or something? Herbie: No, Anne 'oad. Anne Hoad. Me girlfriend. Archie: Oh, so it's a love poem you're writing. Herbie: (Blushing) Well, yeah. Archie: What does she like? Herbie: Doggerel.. Archie: Here, there's no need for that. We only do proper poems here. Herbie: Sometimes she likes a Limerick, but I thought I'd do something special for her. Archie: Double dactyl? Herbie: Do you think she'd like that? Archie: Well, it makes MY missus laugh. Anyway. One rhyming dictionary. Anything else? Herbie: Nah, That's it for now. |
