I have a little vial of oil the healer Wayland left, maybe that will help. I will stop the storms once Slayvern has left, it seems to deter them from attacking but I am sorry that it is scaring my fellow water creatures. Once this is over I will dive down and apologise to your people for the upset.

Thank you, I do hope the oil will help, the pain has made me grumpy. I know wise Wayland. He's been good to me and my kin.

You're a water creature? You have gills? But where are your scales? I see bumps and smooth flesh but you don't look like a merkin.

I understand why there must be storms. You must draw the enemy close and drown them, it's the only way. Nothing else will stop them.

The Krog would appreciate your visit. They cannot drown but they don't like the noise of your storms.

May I have a little drop of water? I am thirsty. I will then guard the roof as your friend has asked.

I'm in human form at the moment but wait a minute and I'll show you my true form.

There now, don't I look better with a tail? Not sure the humans would agree. I am a grandaughter of the Queen of the Crested Wave from Dudrassa, I'm not sure how much that means to your kind but know I am good to all water kin. I have no gills.

I do not know if I can bring myself to. drown them, I have never killed before.

That is very clever! I had a friend who could turn himself into all manner of things, including furniture. I once sat on him for a whole day without him knowing, he ended up with very bad back and bow legs.

I like your tail. It suits you. Human kin have bad taste in all things, they eat rubbish, and dress shabbily, and are generally not very clean.

I have never been to the seaside. Mire water is best for us. I've heard the Dudrassa is very salty. Too many mouthfuls can turn a merkin mad.

Why is the daughter of a Queen hiding out from gangsters in the middle of an isolated swamp?

You may have to drown them, they won't give up until we are all dead, they are not creatures you can reason with.

May I have some water please?

Oh your water! I forgot, i'm not a very good barmaid. I am not sure how I ended up here. I am trying to trace my father, her was a human from Grimney you see and this was the only place my dear mama can remember the name of. She is the sweetest of mermaids but a little fish brained. I don't know ho but I made friends in the tavern, Urat and Gwenllian are dear as family now, and now somehow my destiny seems tiednon with the place. Now I seem to be leading a battle to save a knight's life and preventing war in the mire. I sometimes think it is more than chance Gwenllian and I are here.

I think that you are taking a brave stand with Gwenllian and your friends. It was Sweeney who told me, I spoke to him yesterday. He said he'd lost his nerve, but he's trying to get help. He was afraid, but I said I'd help if he found others.

More help may arrive tomorrow, but they'll probably be the last, Slayvern Kursk has scouts, they'll be watching the comings and goings here. Plotting against us.

I've been told by a friendly fairy named eve, that Urat was ambushed trying to return to you, but he was dragged to safety by Wayland, and an outlaw named Kal Sevrin and some others, where he is now I don't know.

I guess it must be fate that you are here with Gwenllian. Your ma kin would be proud, as would your pa kin.

I know many stories, and perhaps this one will be remembered. The Seige of Holmes Tavern will be talked about beyond the swamp I'm sure. Whatever happens to us, it won't be forgot.

The water is sweet. I must take my place on the roof with Jacob, I sense he's a good man, so I must protect him. No one shall pass, unless it's over my corpse.

Sweeney isn't going to the Citadel to get help is he? We cannot afford Gideon Drake being murdered, it will lead to war I'm the mire and Bolte destroying those of us who aren't human. I wonder who else will come?

I am glad Urat is safe, I am a peaceful creature by nature but if something were to happen to him I shall release a curse so powerful that not even my death will stop it.

I told Sweeney not to go to Gideon. So that human kin is who they're really after is it?

Stupid creatures. Everything in the mire would be wiped away. The tavern would be destroyed. We'd all be killed, and Bolte would be restored to the Queen's Elite and Gideon's Red Hand could then fall into Grimwood Scribe's control. It would be murder on a huge scale.

We need more warriors, Kursk has many in his charge. If more help is not here by nightfall tomorrow, it will be left to us.

This is no time for peace, but once we've driven Slayvern Kursk away, then we can return to normal and raise a glass to Urat Holme's safe return.

Let us hope that this time tomorrow we are victorious, and then we can remember what matters most our families.
