Saygin Baal. He is the very fellow who sent me the letter and invited me to the mire... He wrote in regards to his discovery, the last black pillar, uncovered in that storm... I've heard no word from him since, but Saygin was always of that nature, secretive, devious.. Not a man I cared to trust.. It does seem that once again he has led me straight into danger, and once more without warning... Typical of his kind, I find. I shall take heed of your words Mistress Mermaid, you have been kind to a virtual stranger, I will not forget. As you suggest I shall accept no more gifts of food or drink. I am not a fool, but it appears I may have been taken for one... Unfortunately a good education does not provide great insight, in truth it often dulls the vision, buried in the crusty pages of old musty books, reading by candlelight, head down and rarely looking up... It is the curse of many a scholar, not to see that clearly.
