In my garden, I have both red and yellow bolus. They are essential for some medicines. Red for fever, yellow for digestion. But, the other day, I saw blue bolus. At least, that is what it looked like.

By the edge of Grimney Wood it lay, a patch the size of my garden. The plants were thick, making it look almost like a lake of blue petals. I left them, deciding to find out more.

A few days later (or was it the following day?) I returned to the spot to find the patch had grown larger. Some days later, it was bigger still.

I decided to test it in case it posed a danger, so I dug up 5 plants (I wanted the whole thing) and returned home.

I filled a pail with water from the lake below Hobsbane. This was for emergencies, in case the flowers should prove dangerous.

I prepared some Night Blooming Sangor. Most people know that Sangor of this type is good for treating open wounds. What is not such common knowledge is that it can detect poison.

I placed some Sangor in each of several dishes, then took the first plant. This I separated; petal, flower, stem, root. Each section I chopped and added to a dish. Then I washed my hands in lake water and watched for any changes.

Wayland, I beg you to beware this flower. If it is as I believe it to be, it is a powerful narcotic.

Thank you for telling me. If you are right, it could be the source of much trouble in this land. If so, perhaps it would be prudent to destroy it.

Please, is there anything else you can say?

By all means destroy it, but not by fire. It must be uprooted, plant by plant, for the smallest part left in the ground will regrow.

That would be difficult without many helpers. Also, what should we do with the plants when they are dug up? It is true that we could purify them by dropping them in the waters below Hobsbane, but we would end up with a lake of decomposing plants.

Pleae don't do that, I like to swim there and it will suffocate all the little rainbow fish that live there.

I would never do that. The fish are beautiful, and their song is enchanting.

I have yet to determine if what Grosnik says is correct. Even if the plants are not harmful, there are so many that they must threaten other plants in the wood.

If only there was a way to deal with the Blue Bolus without harming anything else.

We mustn't overlook the question of how they got there in the first place. It doesn't seem to be native to Grimney. I wonder if someone planted it on purpose.

I have searched, and searched. Not a trace of Blue Bolus at all. Just a huge, bare patch of ground where it has taken all the goodness. Nothing will grow there for some time.

How could so much go so quickly? It must have taken many men to accomplish it.

And what did they do with it?

I suppose I must wait until the truth is revealed. This dead earth cannot tell me.
